How I became a Homeopath

I never dreamed as a child, teenager or young adult that I would become a Homeopath. I dreamed of being a vet and in my teens before health and safety I worked for a vet in Gt Yarmouth, during school holidays and Saturdays. I helped in operations, at the births of calves, lambs, piglets- I even examined a cow to see how a calf was lying! It was great fun but alas I just could not get my head around maths and physics at A level and so abandoned that career path. I worked for a bank instead.

I have 2 children. Both born abroad. After both births I had post-natal depression but fortunately my doctor at the time in New Zealand, did not believe in giving antidepressants. Luckily, I was breastfeeding my baby and was a member of La Leche League- a fantastic FREE, worldwide breastfeeding support group. One of the other members said, “Go and see a Homeopath”. Though I had never even heard the word before, I did, and was better so quickly, so thoroughly, that when I saw a night school course, once back in England (this was way back in the 1980’s when such things existed), I went along to learn First Aid Homeopathy and find out more about this wonderful medicine. The first session was on What is Homeopathy? What is “Like Cures Like” and other cornerstone principles. It made total sense to me and I began to study it seriously at the College of Homeopathy.

At about the same time one of my children had awful eczema and I was using steroid cream like there was no tomorrow. The local pharmacist told me to look for another way and suggested Homeopathy. My Homeopath treated my child (notice I say “my child” not “the eczema”), the skin improved and improved until about 1 year later beautiful skin covered my precious child again and steroid cream has never been needed since. What was incredible, I noticed that my grumpy child began to blossom in a way I had not seen since before the eczema. Homeopathy treats the whole person NOT the disease / illness / condition.

That is what I love about Homeopathy!
I am still a Homeopath, still practicing in Abbots Langley all these years later and still as passionate about this medicine as ever!

Becoming a qualified Homeopath, 1994 to date

In 1994 I graduated from the College of Homeopathy in London after 4 years of study. I immediately set up a Low Cost Children’s Clinic, as my idea was to make Homeopathy accessible to as many parents as possible. Often when we have children we are only at the beginning of financial security, and this was my way of increasing availability to all.

For a few years I lectured at the College of Homeopathy. I also tutored students and still supervise students and support newly qualified Homeopaths from time to time and offer “sitting in” opportunities for students.

Over the years I have worked in a Homeless Shelter for women, providing homeopathy; witnessing how much it can help a woman turn her life around after experiencing traumatic life changing experiences. I have attended home births as well as hospital deliveries and experienced the gentle power of Homeopathy.

Teaching Homeopathy:
Then and now

I taught “Introduction to Homeopathy “ courses regularly through 8 week night school courses in the 90’s and from every one, at least one attendee went on to become a Homeopath.

I still teach courses for those who want to feel confident in using this safe medicine at home and with their families. Now-a-days my teaching is in smaller groups, either face to face, or via zoom or skype, and sometimes a mix of all 3, such are the wonders of technology which was not around when I qualified.

Outside of Homeopathy

I have had various interests and passions – I was a Founder member of Village Moonlighters, a panto group in our village still going strong after all these years.
At age 42 years I took up playing women’s rugby, the sport being another passion of mine. I went on to become involved in helping female rugby develop across the counties in the East, South East and Middlesex. As a player I was not a great asset to the game! However, helping the game to develop was very fulfilling and I was quite good at enthusing people to help me develop it.
Now I am a grandmother! I get great joy from watching my grandchildren grow, as is common among grandparents. I love growing vegetables, and visiting France, spending time with family and friends, reading and of course… learning more and more about Homeopathy!
